Frequently asked questions

Five objections. Five direct answers.

The questions a curious enthusiast asks before switching — answered with the same numbers AMSOIL prints on the bottle, not marketing language.

Can I switch from conventional directly to AMSOIL, or do I need a flush?

You can switch directly. AMSOIL’s full-synthetic base stock is compatible with the conventional or synthetic-blend residue left in the engine — drain the old oil and filter at the next interval, then fill with AMSOIL. AMSOIL does not recommend a chemical flush for engines on a standard service schedule, and none is required. If the engine has heavy sludge from missed intervals or a long-sitting vehicle, do an extra drain-and-fill cycle with AMSOIL and a fresh filter on a shortened interval; that is two short-interval changes, not a flush.

Are the long drain intervals safe, and warranty-safe versus OEM?

Yes. Signature Series is rated for 25,000 miles or one year (normal driving) and OE holds the OEM drain interval — both well past the 3,000–7,500 miles a typical synthetic-blend bottle claims. API / ILSAC specs are met, and operating outside the OEM interval does not void the new-car powertrain warranty as long as the oil on the cap meets the spec listed in the owner’s manual; AMSOIL warranty coverage is in addition to manufacturer coverage, not a replacement for it. Keep receipts and a used-oil analysis if you run the extended interval — that is the enthusiast proof.

How does AMSOIL cost-per-mile compare to Mobil 1, Castrol EDGE, Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline, and Royal Purple at retail?

Cost-per-mile = (price per quart × oil capacity) ÷ drain interval. The math favors longer drains: on Signature Series at retail, the higher per-quart price is offset by a 3–5× longer drain, so cost-per-mile lands below the mass-shelf synthetics that look cheaper on the bottle. A side-by-side per-brand comparison against Mobil 1 EP, Castrol EDGE, Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline SynPower, and Royal Purple HPS is currently in our competitor analysis deliverable — the placeholder below flags it as a known gap in this draft until those numbers land.

Per-brand cost-per-mile figures are waiting on the competitor-analysis deliverable. The math formula above and the Signature Series retail figures (25,000-mile drain, current per-quart price on amsoil.com) are the firm inputs; we are not publishing neighbor numbers without the source deliverable behind them.

How does the dealer referral / Preferred Customer signup at checkout actually work?

Click “Enroll in Preferred Customer” on this site — the link carries the dealer referral tag and lands on amsoil.com’s Preferred Customer signup. Create the account ($20 one-time, free after $500 lifetime spend), confirm by email, and every subsequent order is automatically 25% off across the full AMSOIL catalog — motor oils, gear oils, transmission fluids, filtration. The discount applies at amsoil.com checkout; this dealer site never handles the transaction.

Is this dealer-only, or can I buy AMSOIL in stores?

AMSOIL sells through two channels: an authorized dealer network (Preferred Customer / wholesale accounts, what this site routes to) and retail shelf presence in some auto-parts and farm-supply stores. Preferred Customer pricing through the dealer referral is the consistently cheaper path for ongoing use — 25% off catalog, free shipping over $100, and $5 back per $100 spent — none of which a parts-store shelf price matches.
